Handbrake Lever Gaiter (2 replies)
This may seem a silly question but originally on a Mk1 Cooper and S was there a handbrake lever gaiter? I had always believed there wasn't one, but I have found it difficult to find photographs of Mk1 interiors which show the handbrake lever. I am aware that Newton Commercial produce a handbrake lever gaiter, and when I attended the National Mini Show at Stanford Hall recently I made a point of looking at Mk1 cars to see if they had one. Some did and some didn't. Certainly cars that were in the concours appeared to have one, but on other Mk1 cars in and around the show some did and some didn't. I could not help thinking that the concours cars had one because they had a Newton Commercial interior who produce a handbrake lever gaiter for Mk1 Mini's. I therefore am unsure as to whether one was fitted originally back in the 60's. I cannot find any mention of one in John Parnell's book and also in the parts catalogue I have.
If one was fitted then on a Cooper and S which had a body colour of tartan red with black roof would it have been a tartan red gaiter or would it have been a black gaiter?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Hi, No MK I or II ever had a gaiter fitted on the handbrake.
Thank you very much. That is what I believed but having seen them on some Mini's I then was not sure. Thank you for clarifying.
