Message from Mini Cooper Register

by Lorraine Hampson

Happy New Year to you all!

A reminder that our meetings are on the last Wednesday of the month at The Crooked Billet, London Road, Hook, Hants, RG27 9EH from 8pm. All members are very welcome, you don’t have to own a Mini Cooper – any mini will do! It doesn’t matter if you turn up without your mini either….just come along for a drink and a chat with other members. If you have any technical queries about your minis then there is bound to be somebody at the meeting who can help you.

NEXT MEETING – 30th January

Looking forward to our club stand at Brooklands Mini Day 24th March 2019 and hoping that the weather is reasonably kind to us on the day. If you would like to display your car please contact Ken Hunter:

“All types of Mini (including the modern BMW) are invited to this annual event, so expect displays in all areas of the Museum site. From the oldest to the newest, this year’s event will see some of the earliest examples nestling among hundreds of Minis and their variations including vans and pickups. As always Test Hill will be in action (subject to weather).
There will be a variety of trade stands offering mini parts, spares and memorabilia.” .

Did you attend the Brooklands Classic Car New year’s Day Event?
“Everybody – whether driving a “Classic” or not – was welcome to the largest New Year’s Day Classic Gathering in the UK. “
The weather was good and it certainly showed in the attendance numbers…possibly a record event.

It’s nearly here!…the Hinton Firs weekend in Bournemouth, 25th to 29th January 2019. We are really looking forward to this social event and it will be the 37th consecutive year! For more information contact Josh Bromage

Plans are going ahead for our display of Thames Valley Region cars at the Classic Car Rally at the Popham Airfield on the 6th May 2019. If you would like to join in then please contact Ken Hunter. Classic shape Minis only.

Thames Valley Region member, Clive Brooks, is planning our summer run – The Thames Valley Tour 2019 on the 28th July. Further details to follow or contact Clive:

If you weren’t already aware then this year is the Mini’s 60th anniversary and many clubs and enthusiasts will be marking and celebrating this in various ways. The MCR are proposing a display of cars in conjunction with the National Motor Museum’s Beualieu Spring Autojumble over the weekend of 18th – 19th May 2019. We are looking to put on a display of 60 cars to cover the entire range of Mini production models spanning 1959 – 2000. If you are interested, please email your details with a description of your car to John Parnell:

The itinerary and cost for next year’s Minis to Ireland is now in the latest CooperWorld. This time the southern part of Ireland will be explored from the 20th to 27th September. For further details see the full advert in CooperWorld. Entries opened on the 1st December on a first come first served basis with just 40 places available but there is a waiting list if all places are filled. Contact:

Have you seen the article in CooperWorld written by Thames Valley region member Richard Pengelly in which he explains the controversial topic of ethanol in today’s fuel – something we all need to be aware of.

Our club shop is going from strength to strength with more goodies being available to purchase….if you can’t find what you’re looking for then please ask. Have a look at the website Mini Cooper Register and click on club shop.
