CooperWorld Magazine

CooperWorld is the monthly magazine of the Mini Cooper Register

Produced in full colour and packed with Mini Cooper information, this is essential reading for Mini enthusiasts.

Editorial I am really pleased to announce that Chris Dawson has been made an Honorary Member of the MCR. I am sure that many of you will know Chris, and that he worked for John and Mike Cooper as a service advisor at their Ferring West Sussex garage from 1982 right through to when the garage closed down in 2006. This period partly straddled the rebirth years of the classic Mini Cooper when Rover were persuaded by John Cooper, to bring the Mini Cooper back into production once again in 1990 with the RSP. Sadly, Rover stopped production of the classic Mini entirely a decade later in 2000. However, as many of you will know, Chris has never stopped flying the flag for the Mini and the Cooper name, arranging open day visits to the old Cooper garage in Surbiton, and putting on talks about the history of the Cooper Car Company. This year the Cooper Car Company are celebrating their 80th anniversary and Chris is helping to put on a great display of Cooper cars at our Beaulieu 40th anniversary show this June. So, whatever you do, don’t miss it! Moving on, and I have picked up on something of a nice little coincidence between Chris Dawson, and another recent addition to our Honorary Members, namely Kevin Jones. You may recall from Kevin’s introductory article in the January issue of CooperWorld that he worked at the Rover Group from 1987 through to 2000, so over a similar period of years to that of Chris working at John Cooper Garages. I do hope they meet each other if they haven’t already at our show in June. In the meantime, Kevin has kindly written a second article on his days working at the Rover Group giving us a look behind the scenes of his job, something which I always find very interesting to read about. Then we have a follow up Members’ article from Martyn Armstrong who is covering, in some detail, his ups and downs in preparing and racing his GCRC Pre-66 race Mini. In his second instalment article, Martyn covers his first race of the season which took place at the Donington race circuit. As it always seems to be the case with any form of motorsport, detailed and thorough preparation is the key to a good result, and to avoiding a DNF (Did Not Finish) result! Do have a read of Martyn’s article as it gives you an insight into just how much attention to detail and preparation Martyn puts into getting his car both competitive and reliable. Finally, the MCR has initiated the setting up of a Global Digital Mini Archive for Mini and MINI-related publications such as press photos, sales brochures, parts lists, instruction and workshop manuals, etc. Details about this initiative have been covered in a joint article written by club members Patrick Stellwag and John Rula, and in which they cover the idea behind this initiative and the current status of it. They are also seeking help from members worldwide who can provide any Mini related material for the archive which they don’t already have. Enjoy reading this edition.
